The Australian Government’s 2020 Federal Budget contained some much-needed support for the ophthalmic sectorincluding a 50% wage subsidy for practices employing and training new optical dispensers, an immediate asset write-off on the full value of new equipment and a hiring credit of up to A$200 per week.

The Australian 2020 budget, which aimed to boost jobs and investment as Australia emerges from Covid-19, offers a real boost for the ophthalmic sector, said James Gibbins, director and senior trainer at the Australasian College of Optical Dispensing (ACOD).

Put simply - employers who engage any employee and register them for the Certificate IV Optical Dispensing HLT47815 will receive a huge 50% wages subsidy (up to a generous A$7k per quarter, or A$28k per annum, conditions apply). This is effective immediately. It will have a huge impact on our industry, but there is a cap.”

For any employers wishing to take up this opportunity, ACOD can provide clear, simple information to help do this quickly and easily, added Gibbins
