CryoTreq, a single-use, handheld cryo-surgery device, said to offer a quick and effective alternative to laser photocoagulation, especially for lesions in the anterior of the eye, is now being sold in New Zealand.
New Zealand ophthalmic instrument, supplies and practice equipment distributor Toomac is introducing the “revolutionary” device to New Zealand through its partnership with US-based ophthalmic device manufacturer BVI.
Ophthalmic cryosurgery, whilst not routine, has been available in vitreo-retinal surgery for many years, said Toomac’s national manager Mark Taylor. “It requires a console, gas and connections, along with the service requirements to keep the unit running. The Cryotreq eliminates all this and provides a quick, safe and sterile solution.”
CryoTreq enables a minimally invasive ab externo approach to treat retinal tears, said BVI president Shervin Korangy. “Cryotreq will be a game changer. It requires minimal time for preparation, is easy and intuitive to use, with a hand-controlled, single button activation.”
Toomac has distributed BVI products for more than 20 years, including cannula, drapes, custom kits, dry eye solutions and disposable instruments to name a few, said Taylor. “It has the largest range of quality ophthalmic consumables in the world.”
