Strengthening its myopia-management portfolio, CooperVision’s new soft contact lens, MyDay MiSight 1 day, is now available to wearers in New Zealand and Australia.

Combining the proven ActivControl Technology of MiSight 1 day with the advanced silicone hydrogel material used in MyDay lenses, the lens provides the same clear vision and myopia-control benefits as the MiSight 1 day design but now with excellent comfort, enhanced ease of handling and breathability, said the company.

“CooperVision has spent over a decade building expertise in myopia management across more than 40 countries,” said Michelle North, general manager CooperVision ANZ. “MyDay MiSight 1 day brings together our most advanced contact lens material with an optical design already trusted by hundreds of thousands of parents and children worldwide.”

In clinical studies and research spanning 10 years, the ActivControl Technology used in both MiSight 1 day and MyDay MiSight 1 day has been found to slow myopia progression similar to levels seen in emmetropic eyes, when worn as prescribed, said CooperVision. Importantly, the myopia-control benefits from ActivControl Technology in MyDay MiSight 1 day were retained after treatment ended, it added.

The silicone hydrogel material in the new MyDay MiSight 1 day lens provides up to four times the oxygen transmissibility compared with traditional hydrogel lenses and supports sustained comfort throughout the day, CooperVision said. “In clinical evaluations involving children, MyDay MiSight 1 day demonstrated high levels of wearability, including 100% fitting success, excellent handleability and visual acuity measuring better than 6/6.”

Having trialled* the new lens, Gina Partridge, optometrist director with the Auckland Myopia Clinic, said she found MyDay MiSight 1 day offered better visual and ocular health outcomes, overall. “The lens is also thicker, which makes the handling easier, especially for smaller fingers and those new wearers learning to use the lens,” she said. Some existing wearers said they found it "different" initially but at their ~10–14 days review, said they did not notice it at all, she said. “The end-of-day lens removal is also easier as the lens isn't as dry and it doesn’t fall out as easily if they accidentally rub their eyes.”

While the majority did not report a subjective improvement in dryness or vision, their visual acuity (VA) did improve by about 0.5 VA lines and corneal surface staining and tear stability post-lens removal improved too, she added. “The lens’ UV blocking material is also a bonus for NZ conditions.”

*Over approximately four weeks, 18 patients (15 who were MiSight 1 day wearers) have trialled the MyDay MiSight 1 day.
