Canadian eSight has released an improved version of its wearable vision aid device, eSight 4providing greater visual clarity and increased mobility for userssaid eSight’s CEO Robert Vaters

“eSight launched as an unbelievable breakthrough in technology and has since moved to a clinically validated solution for people living with eye disease and disorders that’s widely acclaimed by leading low vision medical professionals.”

The vision-enhancing technology, a wearable autofocused magnifier, works by stimulating the remaining synaptic activity in the user’s eyes to provide the brain with increased visual information. Using the same clinically validated principles as in the previous eSight 3 modelcloud-based eSight 4 was developed with feedback from users and using new visual acuity and hardware design advancements to improve clarity and mobility

The eSight 4 offers improved auto focus, brightness and clarity, zoom and viewing modes as well as full binocular vision integrated with the user’s own prescription lenses. Using mobile appswearers can share what they see with their loved ones, view their mobile screen on their eSight, where they can freeze and zoom to see the details, watch video streaming on their phone on their eSight, and save and share photos and videos captured on their eSight to another mobile device, said the company.

The vision aid is suitable for patients with a central field loss, due to conditions such as macular degeneration, Stargardts, ocular albinism, nystagmus, optic nerve hypoplasia, retinopathy of prematurity and achromatopsia and ideally with a reasonably intact peripheral vision
