SightGlass Vision announced its Diffusion Optics Technology (DOT) spectacle lenses have now been worn by one million children to control their myopia.
DOT lenses first became available in 2021, with launches across Asia-Pacific, Europe and North America. More than 500,000 children are estimated to have been fitted with DOT lenses in 2025 alone, according to SightGlass.
The lens’ design is underpinned by contrast management, since high artificial contrast levels in the modern visual environment may be linked to accelerated eye growth, said the company. DOT lenses are designed to mimic more natural contrast environments by incorporating thousands of elements that gently scatter light before it reaches the retina.
Reaching one million children is a powerful testament to what clinical studies have already shown – DOT lenses work, eyecare professionals trust them and children want to wear them, said Andrew Sedgwick, CEO of SightGlass Vision. “It’s encouraging to see eyecare professionals increasingly embrace this innovation for their young patients, marking another meaningful step towards combatting the global myopia epidemic.”
Founded in 2016, SightGlass Vision now operates as a joint venture of CooperCompanies and EssilorLuxottica.
