Kim Down has joined the Ophthalmology New Zealand (ONZ) team as executive assistant, supporting CEO Moira McInerney.
Having worked with McInerney in ONZ’s Business Leaders Forum in her previous role as general manager of Tauranga Eye Specialists, Down said she is very pleased to continue to work within ophthalmology and with McInerney and ONZ chair Dr Sonya Bennett. “I have enjoyed every minute of working alongside Moira and I’m very excited to not only continue the projects we discussed and planned but also support and enhance the work Moira has done with the ONZ board for many years.”
"ONZ has grown in both its membership and activity over the last couple of years, so Kim is a welcome addition to our small executive team,” said Dr Bennett. “Kim has considerable experience in business management within the health sector and understands the way ophthalmic practices run. We’re looking forward to having more capacity to move quickly on issues affecting the ophthalmic community as they arise.”
McInerney said the role has been in the works for some time. "In a small organisation like ONZ, supporting both the board and the CEO requires someone who has the experience and qualifications to put their hand to anything. Kim is just such a person and we are thrilled to have her join the team."
“With Kim on board, I will be able to focus on the needs of the members, the strategy of the organisation and sustainability to ensure our organisation continues to advocate for our members wherever we can. Plus, after nearly 10 years of manning the email 52 weeks of the year, I will be looking forward to a break!” said McInerney.
When not busy with work, Down plays golf and enjoys catching up with family and friends. “Reading is my other guilty pleasure; I enjoy reading anything that broadens my world view and provides a deeper understanding of the world around me,” she said.
