Icelandic start-up Risk Medical Solutions has launched an app to encourage diabetics worldwide to better self-monitor their risks of sight loss.
The Retina Risk app, developed by University of Iceland researchers, is free and compatible with android and iOS platforms.
Co-founder Professor Einar Stefánsson said the app’s algorithm is based on extensive research into risk factors known to affect diabetic retinopathy progression, such as the duration of diabetes, gender, blood pressure and blood glucose (HbA1c) levels. “It’s user-friendly and includes detailed guidelines and useful information on diabetes and improved self-care, allowing diabetics to better understand their condition and become active participants in their own wellness journey.”
