March 2020 saw the world plunge into the pandemic and, like so many parts of life, dispensing optician (DO) training enrolments flatlined. Fast-track to the present, the economic and social lockdowns are almost over and all of us at the Australasian College of Optical Dispensing (ACOD) have noted a considerable number of both independent and corporate employees enrolling. So we are thrilled to announce two new initiatives to support this post-pandemic influx of students:
- Together with the Association of Dispensing Opticians of New Zealand (ADONZ), we have developed a new travel crate, designed to contain all the essential teaching equipment, such as frames and lenses, dispensing tools and eight brand new focimeters. Having this portable resource is a vital part of ensuring we are ready for a second training location in Christchurch, should the demand warrant it in the future
- We have secured new training rooms in Auckland that we believe are the best ever offered to students of optical dispensing. The new premises, located within walking distance of the airport, are spacious and modern with breakout areas and a large kitchen
