Virtual Field has launched a virtual reality (VR) platform for diagnostic eye exams.
The product, which consists of a VR headset, computer and clicker, runs full threshold and suprathreshold 24-2 visual field tests. The company is also developing 10-2, 30-2, and kinetic tests for its headset, which will be released as updates to its platform.
“In just two years, we’ve seen a huge piece of hardware reduced to a small headset that produces high quality results at less than half the cost,” said Virtual Field CEO Aaron Smith.
Unlike conventional devices, which require an eye patch to be worn on the opposite eye during
testing, Virtual Field performs a monocular test without the need for an eye patch. The device is the perfect fit for optometrists who want to provide visual field tests to their patients, but don’t have the space or money to dedicate to a conventional device, said Smith.
