CooperVision has launched a new global initiative, the Made Better Promise, which the company says reflects its commitment to responsible sourcing using lower-carbon primary packaging materials, manufacturing for greater efficiency and reduced waste and offsetting a portion of its plastic footprint

“CooperVision’s sustainability progress begins with innovation in materials, manufacturing and the way we think about the full life cycle of our products,” said Aldo Zucaro, senior director of corporate responsibility at CooperCompanies.

Beginning with the MyDay daily disposable family of contact lenses, key elements of CooperVision’s Made Better Promise include: polypropylene used in MyDay blisters that is 100% ISCC PLUS-certified bio-attributed material sourced and allocated via the ISCC mass balance approach; manufacturing processes intentionally designed to reduce carbon footprint by leveraging next-generation technologies, reducing waste and improving resource use; and manufacturing sites that recycle more than 90% of waste, helping conserve natural resources and using lower-carbon energy where possible to help reduce environmental impact.

The Made Better Promise also encompasses CooperVision’s net plastic neutrality programme. In partnership with Plastic Bank, the company helps remove plastic waste from the natural environment while creating positive social impact for individuals and communities facing socioeconomic challenges. To date, the net plastic neutrality programme has supported the collection and recycling of plastic equivalent to more than 659 million bottles from coastal areas where plastic pollution is prevalent, said the company.
